It always seems to come around so soon, but the autumn bulb planting season is nearly here already! The good gardener is always planning ahead, so if you like to get organised head to the Katie's Garden online shop - click here - to pre-order themed collections. Bulbs will be available for collection, delivery and purchasing at the nursery from late August. Early-spring flowering bulbs such as Crocus and Rockery Iris are best planted September/October; late-spring flowerers such as Tulips and Alliums needn't go in until November or even December. First varieties we expect to have in the shop this autum are listed below! We are nearly out of summer bedding for this year but we are still packed with plants to brighten up your beds & borders, pots & planters for months (and years) to come!
Highlights include over 20 varieties of Salvia - including perennial and half-hardy types - hardy bush Fuchsias which are an excellent low-maintenance, bee-friendly option for brightening up shadier spots, very long-flowering Dahlias, multi-stemmed Sunflowers, and lots of drought-tolerant shrubs, perennials, lavenders, alpines and herbs. Our supplier nursery, Katie's Garden Plant Centre, is having a golden time!
Following a successful Chelsea Flower Show, the nursery near Martlesham was awarded Large Gold and the Silver Cup for best in show at this year's Suffolk Show. Our own Catherine and Gill - who both work at both Bridge Farm Plants and Katie's Garden - were heavily involved in the prize-winning display garden and the photo below shows Gill proudly holding the Large Gold certificate! You can find out more on the Katie's Garden news page - click here. Our own Gill and Catherine had a day out working at the Chelsea Flower Show as garden greeters on the Talitha Arts Garden!
Many of the plants for the garden were grown by Katie's Garden in Newbourne, which supplies all our plants at Bridge Farm Plants and where the duo work when they are not with us in Monks Eleigh. The garden - which was in the Great Pavilion - was not only awarded Gold at this year's Chelsea Flower Show, it was also judged best garden in the All About Plants category! You can find out more on the Katie's Garden Chelsea Blog - click here We're overflowing with plants here in Monks Eleigh. Come and see us - get advice, get inspired, find an old favourite, find something new!
